Do not let anyone tell you otherwise. The vast majority of individuals that have proven to be enormously successfully attained such success mostly due to their ability to properly plan out career goals.
Proper planning plays a huge role in a successful career because planning institutes the right sense of career logic. Random approaches to career success do not work. If they do work, they either only work for the short term or they can only reflect the ability to handle duties of minimal responsibility. An example of a goal with value would be the desire to become a vice president within a company. Such a goal is a meaningful one which automatically makes it a goal worth following. When you plan career goal setting around such pursuits, you will discover success becomes much more viable. You must never underestimate the value of meaningful goals.

It is not always easy to be enthusiastic in a job when you have been with a company for some time or you are doing the same thing day in and day out. Yet, you must always find something to be enthusiastic about if you wish to attain your career goals.
